FROM THE FOUNDER
我教孩子，像我当年学音乐一样。
I work with students the way I learned music.
十几岁的时候，我靠耳朵自学了二十多种乐器。没有人教，我就一遍遍听，把喜欢的曲子一个音一个音"扒"下来。时间久了我发现一件事：每种乐器的脾气都不一样，但弹到某个音，整个人会突然亮起来，那就是对的音。后来我带学生，做的其实是同一件事。每个孩子都是一件我没见过的乐器，我不停地问，一直问到他聊起某件事时眼睛突然亮了。那个瞬间，我比谁都激动。
As a teenager I taught myself more than twenty instruments by ear. No one taught me; I just listened, again and again, picking out the songs I loved one note at a time. Over time I noticed something: every instrument has its own temperament, but hit a certain note and the whole person lights up; that is the right one. Later, working with students, I was really doing the same thing. Each child is an instrument I've never encountered, and I keep asking until, talking about some particular thing, their eyes suddenly light up. At that moment, I'm more excited than anyone.
我永远记得一个男孩，第一次见面时他低着头对我说"我没什么特别的"。我们聊了很久，才聊到他从小打球、却看到老家很多孩子连一双像样的球鞋都没有，更别提教练了。后来他写了一本关于运动的自传，上了亚马逊畅销榜。他立马把一部分稿费拿去给老家地区的孩子买器材、请教练。那个说自己"没什么特别"的男孩，做成了这件事。
I'll never forget one boy who, the first time we met, looked down and said, "There is nothing special about me." It took a long talk to get there; but he'd grown up playing sports, and he'd seen kids back home who had no decent shoes, no coach. He ended up writing a book that hit Amazon's bestseller lists, then put some of the earnings toward equipment and coaching for those kids. The boy who said he was nothing special did that.
做这行十五年，我最骄傲的从来不是某一封录取通知，而是这些瞬间，一个孩子第一次发现，原来自己身上真的有东西。这也是我做这件事的原因。
Fifteen years in, what I'm proudest of was never a single acceptance letter. It's these moments; a kid discovering, for the first time, that there really is something in them. That is why I sit down with every student in Shanghai myself.

Clint is a co-founder of the program and, for fifteen years, a senior counselor for top U.S. and U.K. university applications. A Harvard graduate, he went on to the Harvard Business Leadership Program and the Harvard Artist Development Fellowship Mentor Program, and has served as a Harvard alumni interviewer. His approach is to uncover the qualities that make each international student distinctive; then guide them to turn it into something real: independent research, ventures, technology, and cross-disciplinary writing and publishing. Students he has guided have gone on to Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and NYU Stern, among others.

本身也是一位作家、研究者、音乐家与创业者。他创办了自己的独立出版机构，作品涵盖哲学、诗歌、历史剧与神经科学研究，由美国、欧洲与亚洲的出版社出版，部分作品被好莱坞、宝莱坞及中国影视市场改编或引进。作为唱作人，他曾在五大洲登台演出。他还创办过多家教育科技公司，并将融合脑科学的学习方法带进课堂。他最擅长、也最享受的，是帮孩子跳出惯性，用好奇心和探索去打开新的可能。
Clint is also a writer, researcher, musician and entrepreneur. He founded his own independent publishing house, with work spanning philosophy, poetry, historical drama and neuroscience; published across America, Europe and Asia, and adapted or optioned for film in Hollywood, Bollywood and China. As a singer-songwriter he has performed on five continents, and he has founded several education-technology companies that bring brain-science-informed learning into the classroom. What he loves most is helping students think past the most obvious answer and recognize new possibilities through curiosity and exploration.

IMPOWL is an education brand focused on interdisciplinary, cross-cultural impact projects, built by the Reach Out team. Founded in 2012, Reach Out has teams in New York, Shanghai, Singapore and London and has long served cross-cultural families. Over more than a decade, our method has been refined around projects students build with their own hands, today's Impact Lab framework. We don't run an assembly line; we build each child's direction by hand, which is why the crucial step of reading a child's direction is always done personally by a senior mentor.
